National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER celebrates its 22nd Foundation Day

The National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh celebrated its 22nd Foundation Day on March 27, 2024. The event was graced by esteem Professor Naresh K Panda, Dean, Academics, PGIMER, Chandigarh, who attended as the chief guest.

Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, the Principal of NINE, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests to the cultural event. In her opening remarks, Dr. Sukhpal provided a brief history and background of NINE, highlighting that it was established in 1964 as a department of PGI with assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO) under the Post Basic Education Project. The College of Nursing was later upgraded to the National Institute of Nursing Education in 2003. Dr. Sukhpal also highlighted the various nursing programs currently being offered by the institute, including B.Sc. Nursing (4 years degree course with 93 seats), B.Sc. Nursing Post Basic (2-year course with 62 seats), M.Sc.

Nursing (2-year course in various specialties with 31 seats), Ph.D. Nursing, and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Nursing (3 seats). She emphasized the importance of highly qualified and dedicated faculty in preparing proficient nurses who can serve humanity. Dr. Sukhpal stressed the need for nursing professionals to be knowledgeable, skilled, and encouraged them to participate in cultural activities for their overall development.

Dr. Naresh K Panda, Dean Academics, PGIMER, who served as the Chief Guest, congratulated and appreciated the Nursing faculty and students of NINE for organizing a wonderful cultural program. He hailed the nursing workforce as the backbone of the healthcare system and commended the upcoming nurses for their inherent compassion and commitment.

The students of the institute enthusiastically participated in the event, showcasing power-packed performances of folk dances representing the diverse cultural heritage of various states in India. Additionally, there were poetry recitations and skits addressing important themes like suicide prevention and creating awareness about the LGBTQ community. The celebration of the 22nd Foundation Day of NINE was a resounding success, showcasing the talent and dedication of its students and faculty.
