In a startling turn of events, a narcotics smuggler, who was arrested on March 18 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, managed to escape from police custody at the High Court Complex in Janipur today.
Identified as Balraj Singh, hailing from Sehora Tehsil, Amritsar, Punjab, the fugitive was apprehended with 9 grams of a heroin-like substance by a team from Police Post Narwal. Singh was accompanied by another individual, Pawan Kumar of Garh Samna Banj, Udhampur, who was found in possession of 6 grams of a similar substance. Both individuals were booked under FIR number 65/2024, under sections 8/21/22/25/29 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Bahu Fort.
Today, the police presented Singh and Kumar in court at the High Court Complex to seek custody for further interrogation. However, amidst the legal proceedings, Singh managed to escape from the spot, leaving authorities scrambling to locate him.
The escape has prompted a widespread search operation by law enforcement agencies to trace the whereabouts of the fugitive. Meanwhile, questions are being raised regarding the security protocols at the High Court Complex and the circumstances leading to the escape.
Authorities have assured swift action to capture the escaped individual and are urging the public to cooperate with any information that may aid in the apprehension of Balraj Singh.
