Mumbai’s minimum temperature rises to 17.3°C, cool spell persists

Minimum temperatures in Mumbai experienced a slight uptick, reaching 17.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, up from the previous day’s 16.2 degrees. Meteorological experts anticipate the continuation of the cool weather pattern until the close of the week.

The India Meteorological Department’s Santacruz observatory documented a minimum temperature of 17.3 degrees on Wednesday, categorizing it as within the normal range. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory recorded a slightly higher temperature of 20 degrees, one degree above the normal threshold.

Simultaneously, daytime temperatures remained below the 30-degree Celsius mark, with Colaba and Santacruz observatories registering maximum temperatures of 29.3 degrees and 29.1 degrees, respectively.

The IMD’s weather forecast for Thursday predicts mainly clear skies, with anticipated maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 29 degrees and 16 degrees, respectively.

Historical data from the IMD reveals that the recorded minimum of 16.2 degrees is the lowest experienced so far this season. However, in previous years, January witnessed even lower minimum temperatures. For example, in the corresponding period last year, the lowest minimum temperature was 13.6 degrees on January 15, and in 2022, it was 13.2 degrees on January 10.

An official from the IMD emphasized the prevailing dry weather conditions in the region.
“There was no significant change in minimum temperatures, and they remained notably above normal. Jalgaon recorded the lowest minimum in the region at 9.3 degrees,” stated the official.
