Mumbai’s air quality holds ‘moderate,’ but several areas witness ‘poor’ levels

Mumbai’s air quality lingered in the ‘moderate’ category on Wednesday for the second consecutive day, as reported by the SAMEER app. However, many areas experienced a decline, sliding into the ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’ category, indicating deteriorating air quality.
The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) data at 9:30 AM displayed an overall AQI of 197, signaling ‘moderate’ air quality. However, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data revealed ‘poor’ air quality in several Mumbai areas, including BKC, Colaba, Byculla, Kandivali, Sion, Malad West, and Vile Parle West, with AQI figures ranging from 243 to 275.
Thane reported ‘moderate’ air quality with an AQI of 196, while Navi Mumbai recorded ‘poor’ air quality with an AQI of 204. Chembur, according to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) data, registered ‘very poor’ air quality with an AQI of 307.
The predominant pollutants in Mumbai were PM 2.5 and PM10. Thane faced a higher prevalence of PM10, and Navi Mumbai encountered too many challenges.
