‘Mumbai to witness agitation’: Jarange-Patil warns govt next protest

Manoj Jarange-Patil, a prominent Maratha reservation activist, announced on Thursday that if the state government fails to meet his demands by December 24, he will initiate his next agitation in Mumbai. Speaking in Solapur district during his statewide tour of Maharashtra, Jarange-Patil expressed confidence in securing reservation for the Maratha community. He criticized past Maharashtra governments for neglecting Marathas and keeping their identity proof concealed. Jarange-Patil emphasized that the government’s hesitation stems from the emerging evidence of Maratha identity. If the demand for reservation is unmet, he declared Mumbai as the venue for the upcoming protest.
The activist outlined a deadline strategy, stating, “If by December 24, the government fails to take a decision, we will decide our future course of action on December 25.” Jarange-Patil highlighted the importance of supportive evidence for enacting laws and noted the increasing discovery of Kunbi caste records that could aid the government in making necessary legal provisions.
Addressing tensions between the Maratha and OBC communities, Jarange-Patil accused a few OBC leaders of instigating conflict for political gain. He asserted that most OBC members recognize the legitimacy of Marathas seeking reservation and believe in their rightful entitlement. The activist concluded by referencing his recent hunger strike, which he temporarily suspended in October, vowing to resume protests if the government does not address Maratha reservation concerns by the specified deadline at the end of December.
