In one of the biggest ever drug hauls in recent times, Mumbai Police on Thursday seized over 700 kg of mephedrone, a banned drug, after the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Crime Branch raided a drug manufacturing unit at Nalasopara in Palghar. The ANC arrested five persons after the raid, including a post graduate in organic chemistry, who used his skills to manufacture the banned drug at the unit, said a senior official of the ANC.
The net worth of the drug haul is estimated at Rs. 1400 cr. The ANC conducted the raid after a specific tip-off and arrested one person from the premises of the Nalasopara unit. According to the police officials, the accused is a post graduate in organic chemistry. The other four persons were nabbed from Mumbai city, including a woman.
Speaking to The Daily Guardian, DCP Anti-Narcotics Cell Datta Nalwale said, “The action was carried out based on specific inputs. The ANC team raided the premises, during which it found that mephedrone, a banned drug, was being manufactured.”
