Mumbai Police gets 10 Polaris all-terrain vehicles for beach patrol in corona times

On Tuesday, the Mumbai Police Force received 10 well-equipped and state-of-the-art all-terrain vehicles for patrolling the city, especially in the Chowpatty area.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray flagged off the batch of 10 Polaris ATVs at an event held on the first day of unlock in Mumbai. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil were also present at the event.

The ATVs will be primarily used for patrolling at the seashore but they will also be deployed in some rescue operations where normal vehicles cannot reach, he said. An ATV can carry four people at a time. Each beach will have two ATVs for patrolling. Besides the CM, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and senior police officers were present at the event.

Mumbai is in phase 3 for unlocking guidelines. Partial unlock has allowed markets and public places to remain open till 4 pm, which might allow huge public gatherings at beaches across Mumbai.

“It will be easy for us to keep an eye over people as these vehicles are built with smart technology. It has a capacity of four people. ATVs will help at times when beaches are overcrowded during the Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, and other festivals. We have been given the training to utilize ATVs at the best capacity. It is an all-season vehicle which will help us to do our duties with the easy flow in summer and rainy season amid heavy rainfall,” said Constable Sachin Khandagale.

For driver assistance, the all-terrain vehicle is equipped with features like a single analog dial with a 2-inch LCD Rider Information Center, Speedometer, Tachometer, Odometer, Tripmeter, Gear Indicator, Fuel Gauge, Seatbelt Reminder Light and many more.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is likely to receive a heavy rainfall and people are being suggested to avoid visiting beach areas. Mumbai, under the partial unlock, is reporting less than 1000 cases for past one week.
