Mumbai Airport Sees 9% Year-on-Year Growth with 4.36 Million Passengers in April

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) saw a remarkable 131 percent rebound in passenger numbers compared to April 2019 (pre-pandemic), according to Mumbai International Airport Limited. The airport experienced significant growth in passenger traffic during April 2024, handling 4.36 million passengers, reflecting a 42 percent increase from April 2022 and a 9 percent increase from April 2023, highlighting its status as a leading global aviation hub.

In April 2024, CSMIA managed a total of 26,870 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), comprising 19,892 domestic and 6,978 international ATMs. This marks a 24 percent increase from April 2022 and a 5 percent increase from April 2023. The busiest day in terms of passenger traffic was April 14th, with 156,793 passengers passing through CSMIA, including 113,540 domestic and 43,253 international movements.

Among domestic destinations, Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad were the top choices for CSMIA in April 2024, while Dubai, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi remained the preferred international destinations. Domestic carriers held the largest market share in both domestic and international sectors. Additionally, the airport processed 3.47 million bags during the month, marking an 11.61 percent year-on-year increase compared to April 2023.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of the Adani Group. MIAL operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with AAHL holding a majority stake of 74 percent and the Airports Authority of India holding the remaining 26 percent.
