The ongoing cold spell in Rajasthan, fueled by continuous northerly winds, is intensifying, causing disruptions in daily life. On Wednesday morning, Mount Abu recorded a temperature of minus two degrees Celsius. Ice formation on trees, pipes, and car roofs was observed in Mount Abu. The night temperature in six cities of the state dropped below 5 degrees, with dense fog persisting in cities like Shriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, and Shekhawati. Sunlight was eagerly awaited by the residents in these areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, the night temperature in Sikar, Bikaner, Alwar, Fatehpur, Sirohi, and Phalodi stayed below five degrees. In addition to Mount Abu, Sikar recorded 3 degrees, Sirohi 3.9, Alwar 4, Fatehpur and Bikaner 4.2, and Phalodi 4.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Karauli recorded 5, Jaisalmer 5.3, Churu 5.4, Pilani 5.6, Vanasthali 6.3, Ajmer 6.8, Dholpur 7.2, Barmer 8, Shriganganagar and Sangaria 8.1, Jalor 8.2, Chittorgarh 8.7, and Jodhpur 8.8 degrees Celsius.
Radheshyam Sharma, the Director of the Meteorological Science Center, mentioned that the dense fog and cold conditions prevailing in the state are likely to continue for the next two to three days. A new western disturbance is expected to be active from January 7-8, bringing the possibility of light rain in some places in the state from January 7-9.
On Tuesday night, Jaipur experienced the coldest night of this season. Although there was a daytime temperature increase of 4 degrees, there was a decrease of one degree in the nighttime temperature. The maximum temperature in Jaipur was recorded at 19.1, and the minimum temperature was 5.7 degrees Celsius. Jaipur’s air quality has consistently been poor for the past four days, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 290 on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the AQI was recorded at 270, with specific AQI values for different areas in Jaipur.
Shastri Nagar had an AQI of 286, Adarsh Nagar 237, Police Commissionerate 197, Murlipura 356, Sitapura RICO 312, and Mansarovar 280.
