Once again, the court has given a big blow to the senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is accused in a drug-related case. The Mohali court has adjourned the hearing of his bail plea till March 22. Presently he is in Patiala Jail, due to the adjournentment, he will now have to remain in the jail for the time being.
In the last week of December, an FIR was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia in a drugs case. However, the arrest of Bikram Majithia was stayed by the Supreme Court till February 23 so that he could campaign during the elections. Bikram Majithia surrendered in Mohali court on 24 February.
As soon as he surrendered, he was sent to judicial custody in the Central Jail of Patiala. Majithia’s bail plea was heard in the court on Tuesday, 8 March, which was adjourned till 22 March. This is a big setback for Majithia, as now he will have to remain in Patiala Jail till March 22.
The Congress government had registered a drug case against Bikram Majithia in the Mohali Crime Branch. He is accused of colluding with international drug smugglers. After the registration of the case, he had applied anticipatory bail in the Mohali court, which is being rejected time and again.
Public prosecutors on behalf of the SIT are opposing the bail citing the gravity of the allegations under the NDPS Act. The prosecutor told about the Special Task Force (STF) report that a case has been registered on the basis of which drug smugglers have named Majithia.
Bikram Majithia is lodged in Patiala jail in a drug case. Since March 10, the leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal were constantly reaching to meet Bikram Singh Majithia in jail, but now the Patiala Jail Administration has also adopted a strict stand. Now the leaders are not being allowed to meet Majithia. According to the rules of the jail administration, a family member is allowed to visit twice a week.
