Modi govt overhauled India’s health infrastructure: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted on Thursday that the Modi government, over the last nine years, has dramatically revamped India’s health infrastructure from primary to tertiary level.
Moreover, it has ensured free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for the underprivileged.
In a series of tweets, Shah lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, under which healthcare has transitioned from being a privilege to a fundamental right. He cited the hashtag “#9YearsOfHealthForAll” and stated, “India overhauled its health infrastructure from primary to tertiary level while ensuring free treatment up to ₹5 lakh for the poor.” The Home Minister highlighted that PM Modi’s administration has effectively leveraged technology to make healthcare services more accessible. “Whether it is Covid Vaccination, telemedicine, hospital registration, or accessing health records, healthcare now is at the fingertips of citizens,” he shared. The Ayushman Bharat scheme, a significant initiative by the Modi government, provides a defined benefit cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year to eligible beneficiaries, covering almost all secondary care and most tertiary care procedures. The scheme is designed inclusively, with no cap on family size or age, ensuring women, children, and the elderly are not left out. The policy covers all pre-existing conditions from day one, and it also includes pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses. Beneficiaries under the scheme also receive a defined transport allowance for each hospitalisation, as per official sources.
