Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biedn on Tuesday shared a warm hug as the G20 Summit began in Bali.
In a photo shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders are seen shaking hands “PM @narendramodi and @POTUS @JoeBideninteract during the @g20org Summit in Bali. G20
working session on Food and Energy Security,” Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi’s pull-aside meeting with US President Joe Biden on the margins of the G2O summit played an important role in salvaging the G20 from dissensions and divisiveness. In his conversation with President Biden, PM Modi affirmed that “G-20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, and underlined the importance of G-20 continuing to demonstrate its capacity to bring together major economies, to overcome global challenges.”
In the brief interaction with President Biden, marked by good humour and camaraderie, PM Modi outlined important priorities of India’s G20 presidency and New Delhi’s unwavering commitment to interests of the Global South. “PM Modi affirmed that India would give voice to other developing countries during its Presidency, and emphasized G-20’s role in assisting vulnerable countries,” said India’s Ministry of External Affairs in a read-out of Modi-Biden talks.
Meanwhile, US State Department Spokesperson Zed Tarar said hereIndia and United States have always been on the same page as far as several global issues are concerned. Speaking to ANI in Bali, Tarar on Tuesday said that there is a “friendship” between Biden and Modi, and that it is “apparent.” “There is a friendship between President Biden and PM Modi which is apparent. There are several such world topics that both nations do not see face to face. But that does not affect our relationship. Every country moves as per their own strategy, most important is we are keeping pressure on Russia, not on our friends,” said Zed Tarar.
