Missing son of Delhi ACP found dead in Haryana canal, second suspect arrested

Days after the son of an assistant commissioner of police was abducted and murdered, police recovered his body from a canal near Samalkha in Haryana on Sunday. DCP (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said they had arrested a second accused in the case, and the victim’s car was also recovered.
“We have been searching for Lakshay Chauhan’s body for the past several days.
Around 150 personnel from the police, NDRF, canal staff, and divers were involved in the operation,” an officer said.

The second accused was identified as Vikas Bharadwaj, a clerk at Tis Hazari courts. Chauhan, a 26-year-old lawyer, practised at Tis Hazari courts. His father is posted as ACP (operations). Police had earlier arrested Abhishek (19).

A police source said that on the evening of Jan 22, Chauhan and two of his friends, Bharadwaj and Abhishek, had gone to a wedding in Bhiwani, Haryana, in his car. Later, Chauhan went missing, and his family found his phone switched off.

Around 11.20pm on Jan 23, Chauhan’s father filed a ‘missing person’ report at Samaypur Badli police station, and a case was registered. Police then apprehended Abhishek.
Bharadwaj had allegedly contacted Abhishek on Jan 22 and asked him to accompany him to a wedding in Sonipat along with Chauhan. “Bharadwaj also told Abhishek that Chauhan had borrowed money from him and refused to return it,” police said, adding that the duo allegedly planned to eliminate Chauhan.

During their return from the function, the three men stopped the car in Panipat and stepped out to relieve themselves. When the victim was standing close to the canal, Abhishek and Bharadwaj pushed him and fled in the car, police said.
