MiG 29K crashes over sea off Goa; pilot rescued safely

A MiG 29K which was on a routine sortie crashed over the sea off Goa after it developed a technical malfunction while returning to base on Wednesday.

During a swift search and rescue operation, the pilot ejected safely and has been recovered.

Meanwhile, to investigate the cause of the incident Board of Inquiry (BoI) has ordered.

“MiG 29K on a routine sortie over the sea off Goa developed a technical malfunction while returning to base. The pilot ejected safely & has been recovered in a swift SAR op. The pilot was reported to be in stable condition. BoI ordered to investigate the cause of the incident, said Spokesperson Navy.

Earlier in 2020, an Indian Navy Pilot Nishant Singh died after his MiG-29K crashed in the Arabian Sea.

Moreover, two more crashes took place on 23 February 2020 and 16 November 2019.

However, the MiG 29K aircraft is an air dominance fighter with a maximum speed of over twice the speed of sound (about 2000 kmph) and also climbs to an altitude of over 65000 feet.
