Meta has introduced the Meta Verified program for WhatsApp Business users in India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Colombia. Initially launched for WhatsApp Business in September last year, verification was previously limited to Instagram and Facebook users.
Under the Meta Verified subscription service, WhatsApp Business merchants will receive a verified badge and impersonation protection once they provide their business details to the company. Additionally, verified businesses will have access to a dedicated WhatsApp channel for marketing purposes.
Subscribers to the Meta Verified program can log in to their WhatsApp Business account from multiple devices and create a custom web page with their business details to share with customers and vendors. The company is also developing a feature that will allow people to call WhatsApp Business users using APIs.
The verified status provides impersonation protection and serves as a customer support number, eliminating the need to use a personal phone number. Meta is also developing new tools that will enable AI to respond to common questions asked by users to business owners. While Meta plans to charge companies for this feature, pricing details have not been disclosed.
Meta is also working on a personalized messaging service for business owners, allowing merchants to send coupon codes, birthday wishes, and updates on new products to customers. The Meta Verified subscription service is priced at $14 per month and will be rolled out to more countries in the future.
