Meta’s WhatsApp and Instagram Restored After Global Outage

WhatsApp and Instagram, both owned by Meta, have been reinstated following a global outage. The outage occurred on Wednesday around 11.45 pm, impacting users worldwide. Users trying to access either the app or its web version encountered an error message stating that the service was unavailable.

“We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible,” said WhatsApp in a post on X.

Downdetector, a website monitoring service, noted a significant increase in reports of WhatsApp and Instagram experiencing issues during this period. This marks the second  outage of the Meta-owned platforms in 2024.

During March, numerous users experienced an outage affecting Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Users reported being logged out of their accounts, with some unable to log back in automatically. Additionally, those using two-factor authentication encountered difficulties receiving codes to complete their log-ins. This issue affected both the application and the website.
