Mehbooba Mufti urges voters to voice discontent over Article 370 abrogation

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti rallied voters in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, urging them to express their dissatisfaction over the abrogation of Article 370 through their ballots in the ongoing Lok Sabha election.
Speaking at a roadside gathering in the Larkipora area of Anantnag district, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister emphasized the significance of the current electoral process as a platform to convey a resounding message against the decisions made in 2019 and their aftermath.

“This is not merely an Assembly election. It transcends party affiliations. It’s about signaling loud and clear that the actions taken in 2019 and their aftermath are not acceptable to the people,” Mufti asserted, referring to the BJP-led Centre’s decision to revoke the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, followed by the region’s bifurcation into Union territories. Mufti acknowledged the challenging circumstances facing Jammu and Kashmir, stressing the importance of unity and peaceful democratic means to navigate through these turbulent times.

“While the current situation may pose challenges, we have weathered tough times in the past, and we shall overcome this as well, but only if we stand together, advocating for our rights through peaceful and democratic channels,” she remarked.
Mufti also reflected on the historical role of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), acknowledging public grievances while highlighting the party’s efforts to safeguard the interests of the people.

“Despite any past grievances, people recognize that the PDP has shielded them from adversities such as the task force, counter-insurgent Ikhwan group, and draconian laws like POTA,” Mufti affirmed, underscoring the party’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. As the electoral process unfolds, Mufti’s call resonates with the electorate, inviting them to exercise their democratic right to shape the future trajectory of the region amidst ongoing political transformations.
