Meena Kumari’s Stepson Reacts To Sharmin Segal Saying She Was Inspired By ‘Nothingness’ In Pakeezah

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi” has emerged as one of the most-watched Indian shows on Netflix. Despite receiving praise for their performances, all actors onboard, Sharmin Segal faced criticism for her acting abilities on social media. Segal had previously mentioned drawing inspiration from Meena Kumari’s ‘nothingness’ in “Pakeezah” for her role in “Heeramandi.” However, Tajdar Amrohi, the late actor’s stepson, strongly opposed Segal’s comparison, asserting that “Pakeezah” should not be compared to “Heeramandi.”

In an interview with Zoom TV, Tajdar Amrohi, the son of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, expressed his disapproval of comparing the recently popular series “Heeramandi” with the classic film “Pakeezah.”

What Tajdar Amrohi Has To Say?

Amrohi emphasized the vast difference between the two works, stating, “There is a difference of earth and sky between them.” He discouraged the comparison, asserting that “Pakeezah” is incomparable due to the irreplaceable talents of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi. Amrohi recalled a visit by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to Kamalistan Studio, where Bhansali showed great reverence for his father’s work. While Amrohi respected Bhansali’s admiration, he emphasized the uniqueness of each cinematic creation.

Amrohi disagreed with Sharmin Segal’s statement regarding her portrayal in “Heeramandi,” particularly her reference to Meena Kumari’s performance in “Pakeezah.” He stated, “No, I can’t relate to her statement on nothingness.” Segal had previously mentioned drawing inspiration from Meena Kumari’s character for her role in “Heeramandi.”

Richa Chadha’s Tribute to Meena Kumari

Meanwhile, Sharmin’s co-star Richa Chadha also paid tribute to Meena Kumari in “Heeramandi.” Chadha highlighted the enriching experience of observing and learning from Meena Kumari’s character in “Pakeezah.” She emphasized the depth and complexity of Kumari’s portrayal, which influenced her performance in “Heeramandi.”

“Heeramandi” has been renewed for a second season, following its success and critical acclaim.
