Media professionals unite for gender sensitivity workshop

A collaborative initiative by UNICEF and ‘The Future Society’, titled “Gender Sensitive Rajasthan” aimed at enhancing gender sensitivity in media, witnessed a one-day workshop in Suncity Jodhpur. The workshop, held at RTDC Hotel Ghoomar from 10 am to 2 pm, brought journalists together to prioritise and address women’s issues.
Senior expert and trainer Nasiruddin conducted the workshop, enlightening participants on instances of gender discrimination against boys and girls. Emphasising the need for media professionals to drive societal change, Nasiruddin highlighted key aspects for fostering a more inclusive mindset. He urged fellow journalists to use their news stories to communicate that both genders are equal, underscoring the power of media in shaping societal perceptions.
Communication specialist of UNICEF Rajasthan, Ankush Singh, addressed the gathering during the inaugural session, stressing the crucial role of the fourth pillar of democracy in safeguarding children’s rights. Singh emphasised the media’s potential to advocate for children’s basic rights, such as the right to health through timely vaccinations.
Ravita Sharma, Vice President of The Future Society, outlined the workshop’s purpose, emphasizing the media’s capacity to act as a brand ambassador for promoting gender sensitivity.
Journalists from Pali, Barmer, Jalore, and notable figures like Sangeeta Sharma and Rajeev Gaur from the Jodhpur division attended the workshop. They provided valuable feedback and insights on the subject, reinforcing the belief that media can play a pivotal role in fostering gender sensitivity.
