MC eco-friendly initiative to transform floral waste into incense

With a commitment to the development and sustainability of the city, a strong focus on promoting clean and eco-friendly practices, and ensuring the well-being of its citizens, MC Chandigarh has launched a significant initiative.

As part of the Swachh Teerath Campaign, MC Chandigarh, through its flagship program, has taken the initiative to exclusively collect floral waste from all places of worship in the city. This collection is carried out by the dedicated collection vehicle – Visar Vahan – which gathers floral waste, skillfully transforming it into fragrant incense cones and sticks by the ARPAN SHGs. This initiative aims to ensure a cleaner and more environmentally friendly city.

Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, expressed her enthusiasm for this initiative, emphasizing its unique collaboration between stakeholders. She highlighted that this collaboration creates sustainable livelihood opportunities for women and promotes the adoption of sustainable practices. Through the recycling of floral waste and the promotion of eco-friendly products, MCC aims to preserve the environment and generate livelihood opportunities for women. This initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible waste management and showcases the significant impact that small actions can have on the community and the environment. MCC is firmly committed to cleanliness, sustainability, and the well-being of the community, striving to create a harmonious and eco-friendly environment for all citizens.

In addition to the collection of floral waste through Visar Vahan, a comprehensive deep cleansing drive is currently underway at worship places throughout the city. This drive, including activities such as sweeping, washing, repairing, litter picking, cleaning dustbins, and collecting floral waste, will continue until January 22, coinciding with the Pran Pratishtha Ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi. These proactive measures exemplify MCC’s unwavering commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in public spaces.

MC Chandigarh strongly encourages active participation in the implementation of various initiatives and the establishment of partnerships to foster a harmonious and eco-friendly environment for its citizens.
