Mayor’s free parking promise for two-wheelers falls flat: Deepa Dubey’s critique

Deepa Dubey, the President of Chandigarh Mahila Congress, has raised several questions about the local BJP-led Municipal Corporation, administration, and the BJP unit in Chandigarh. Dubey stated that despite having a BJP-led Municipal Corporation, there have been a minimum of only 9 sessions related to the city’s issues in the Municipal Corporation house throughout the entire year under the mayoral term of Anoop Gupta. She questioned what Mayor Anoop Gupta has done for the progress of the city, as his tenure seems to lack significant discussions related to the city’s development and municipal corporation matters.
She pointed out that even after the announcement of the meeting in December, the session had to be postponed. Dubey questioned the reason behind the Mayor’s inability to schedule a Municipal Corporation meeting once a month, as mandated.
Dubey further remarked that the Chandigarh unit of the BJP is not under control of the Mayor. She questioned the mayor’s authority when BJP councilors did not join the protest on the administration office premises regarding the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. She emphasized that if the Mayor has done anything for the city’s progress, he should disclose it.
Dubey also criticized Chandigarh’s MP Kirron Kher, stating that Kher is rarely seen in the Municipal Corporation house, having cast her vote only once a year. She questioned Kher’s contribution to the city’s progress over the past 9 years.
The Mahila Congress President urged that if the BJP’s Mayor has contributed to the city’s development, it should be highlighted. She also expressed concerns about the delayed Municipal Corporation elections, which were previously held on January 1 but have been shifted to the second or third week due to the BJP leaders’ convenience.
