Mayor inaugurates Animal Birth Control Centre at Raipur Kalan

To ensure proper care of street dogs and efficient implementation of the animal birth control programme in the city under ABC rules, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has made its second Animal Birth Control Centre operational, at Raipur Kalan, today.

City Mayor Anup Gupta inaugurated the Animal Birth Control Centre in the presence of Sh. Harjeet Singh, Deputy Mayor & area councillor and officers of Municipal Corporation. The Mayor accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, also flagged off an Animal Ambulance, donated by Jana Small Finance Bank, which will operate throughout the city and take care of sick and injured dogs.
While speaking on the occasion after inauguration, the Mayor said that in order to increase the capacity for sterilization of dogs, the ABC centre has been constructed at village Raipur Kalan, which has 4 dog kennels with the capacity to accommodate 310 dogs.

The Mayor said that the Animal Ambulance, equipped with trained staff will be made operational throughout the city and will be deployed to take care of the complaints received by the MCC regarding sick and injured dogs. He said that first aid will be provided to the sick and injured dogs immediately and they will be shifted through this ambulance to the ABC centres for further treatment.

It is worthwhile to mention that the Municipal Corporation is already operating an ABC centre in sector 38 West with a capacity of 104 dogs. With the Raipur Kalan facility being operationalized, the capacity of the Municipal Corporation to sterilise and arrest the population of stray dogs shall increase manifold.
