Maratha quota dispute escalates as minister denies blanket Kunbi certificates

The Maratha quota controversy in Maharashtra deepens as Minister Girish Mahajan denies the feasibility of providing Kunbi caste certificates to all Marathas. Quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, however, threatens to expose a purported video clip where Mahajan allegedly made the commitment.

Jarange-Patil stated, “When I was on a fast-unto-death, Girish Mahajan came to meet me on behalf of the government. He promised that the government would provide Kunbi certificates to all Marathas. If he denies it now, I will make the clip viral.”
Mahajan responded, clarifying, “During Jarange-Patil’s hunger strike, I met him and conveyed that providing Kunbi certificates to all Marathas would not be possible. We can only provide certificates based on records.

The government has decided on this. If we have to provide Kunbi certificates to all Marathas, the question is under which law or rule.”

Mahajan emphasized his support for Maratha reservation, stating, “We are in favor of the Maratha community getting reservation. I conveyed this to Jarange-Patil on the stage where he was fasting.”

Jarange-Patil insists that all Marathas should receive Kunbi certificates and has set a deadline until December 24 for the government to ensure Maratha community reservations.
He warns, “After that, we will not give the government even one more day… The government will find it difficult to tackle the Marathas after the December 24 deadline is over.
