Man from Punjab accused of assisting Pakistan’s ISI in anti-India activities

In a significant development, authorities have detained a man from Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, suspecting his involvement in espionage activities on behalf of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), as disclosed by police officials on Friday.
The individual stands accused of aiding anti-India endeavors by purportedly furnishing sensitive information regarding Indian Army deployments, as well as transmitting documents and photographs via his mobile phone, law enforcement sources revealed.
Acting upon intelligence inputs, law enforcement officers apprehended Harpreet Singh near a railroad crossing on Phagwara road during the late hours of Thursday. Originally from Tarn Taran district, Singh was presently residing in the Vijay Nagar area.
According to police statements, Singh, a resident of the city for the past four years, purportedly traveled to Pakistan twice on a visitor visa, where he allegedly engaged with ISI operatives. Investigators claim that Singh maintained communication with these ISI officials via WhatsApp.
Furthermore, Singh allegedly obtained Indian SIM cards through fraudulent means and facilitated ISI operatives in utilizing WhatsApp and other internet applications through these SIM cards to orchestrate anti-India activities, as per police assertions.
Upon his arrest, authorities seized a bag containing an Aadhaar card, a passport, Indian currency, and a mobile phone from Singh.
Interrogations of Singh are currently underway, with police authorities anticipating further disclosures in due course, stated a police official.
The accused has been charged under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Official Secrets Act, 1923, as delineated in an FIR lodged at the Model Town Police Station.
