The Dera Bassi police apprehended a 30-year-old individual, Davinder Singh, for assaulting and molesting a married woman during a dispute over scattered construction material with a neighbour. The incident occurred in their street, escalating an ongoing conflict between the involved parties. The complainant, residing in a rented house adjacent to Davinder’s residence, reported that while inspecting their construction work on Tuesday, he found Davinder and several women assaulting his wife upon his return from their rented accommodation. Attempting to intervene, the complainant and his son were also assaulted. The accused inappropriately touched the complainant’s wife, tore her clothes, and inflicted injuries, leading them to seek medical attention at the local civil hospital.
The police arrested Davinder Singh, while his accomplice, Prince, remains at large. Investigating the matter, it was revealed that the victim had previously engaged in heated disputes with Davinder, particularly regarding the installation of an electricity meter, although the issue had been resolved. The recent altercation arose from a brewing conflict over scattered construction material. The Dera Bassi police have charged the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, assault with intent to outrage modesty, criminal force to dishonour a person, criminal intimidation, and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
