Makar Sankranti festivities marred by fatal kite flying incidents

In many cities of Rajasthan, Makar Sankranti was celebrated with great enthusiasm. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, kite flying was carried out extensively in various cities, including Jaipur.
During this time, people enjoyed cutting kites on rooftops, and amidst the noise of cheers, the festivities continued with sesame laddoos and snacks like kachori and pakoras. As darkness fell, people were seen flying kites with lanterns.
Meanwhile, in different districts of the state, incidents occurred due to kite flying, and some of them resulted in fatalities. At several places, incidents of neck and body injuries due to kite strings were reported. In Jhalawar, a 10-year-old boy died due to his neck getting entangled in a kite string. In Jaipur, a 12-year-old boy also died after falling from a rooftop. In Bundi, a 62-year-old man, Ram Lal Meena, had his neck cut by a kite string, causing 15 stitches in his throat.
Rinku Sharma (12), a resident of Prem Pura Bhateri in the Tunga police station area of Jaipur, was flying a kite on Monday evening. While flying the kite, Rinku’s foot slipped, and he fell from the rooftop. The family rushed Rinku Sharma, in critical condition, to the local hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, where doctors declared him dead.
During kite flying, several incidents occurred across the state. In Jaipur, Dashrath Sharma (23) from Subhash Chowk had his neck cut by a kite string. Despite wearing a helmet, the accident happened. Injured Dashrath works in a shop. He was leaving the shop on a bike to buy goods when the kite string cut his throat. Dashrath has 6 stitches on his neck.
