MAHARASHTRA INOCULATES 5 LAKH PEOPLE IN A DAY, 1.5 CRORE CITIZENS VACCINATED SO FAR

Amid the surge of Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra on Monday spanned a milestone by vaccinating 5 lakh 34 thousand citizens in a single day. The state has achieved a landmark in its Covid inoculation drive by vaccinating 1.5 crore citizens so far, becoming the only region in the country to have registered this figure.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Health Minister Rajesh Tope congratulated all those who are involved in achieving the milestone.“Maharashtra has completed 1.5 crore vaccinations today and is the only state in the country to have such a large number of vaccinations. The state has set a record by vaccinating 5 lakh 34 thousand citizens in a day yesterday”, tweeted Health Minister Rajesh Tope on successful completion of 1.5 crore vaccinations across the state.

A statement issued by the health department stated that the number is expected to rise further when the final figures come. Till 6 pm on 26 April, more than five lakh people had been administered vaccine doses”, the statement said. Vaccine doses were given to beneficiaries at 6,155 centres — 5,347 government-run and 808 private ones—across the state, it said.

Tope reiterated, “The cabinet will decide on the issue of vaccination for above 18 years age and how much will it cost to the State, all this will be discussed in the cabinet meeting. If we want to give the vaccines to above 18 years of age we have more than 5 crore people of above 18 years of age in the state and for this, we need 12 crore vaccines and this will cost more than Rs 6,000 crore. We have written a letter to the Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech also about our demands for vaccines for above 18 years of age.”

“Recovery rate is good and we can say that the peak is going down”, said Rajesh Tope on the Covid graph in the state. He also mentioned about oxygen crisis and Remdesivir while interacting with the media on the current Covid situation in the state. “We have instructed the FDA and health department to give details on websites and on Twitter handle about the usage of Oxygen and Remdesivir, just the way we have been giving numbers of Covid-19 patients’ details on social media. From now onwards the details of oxygen and Remdesivir will also be given”, he said.
