LS polls: Congress names Raja Warring as candidate against Ravneet Bittu from Ludhiana

Congress party revealed the names of four additional candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. Among them, the candidate for the Ferozepur constituency is still pending confirmation.

The party, which had previously disclosed eight candidate names, has now nominated Raja Warring, the state chief of Congress, to contest from Ludhiana against BJP candidate Ravneet Bittu, who recently switched allegiance from Congress to BJP.
Sukhjinder Randhawa, the MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, has been chosen to represent Gurdaspur, while Kulbir Zira, MLA from Zira, has been named for Khadoor Sahib. Vijay Inder Singla, a former cabinet minister and MP from Sangrur, has been selected for Anandpur Sahib. With this announcement, the party has now declared candidates for 12 out of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, leaving only the Ferozepur constituency pending. These nominations were finalized during the party’s Central Election Committee meeting held on Saturday.

Warring, who hails from the Jat Sikh community, previously contested from Bathinda in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and served as the transport minister in the previous Congress government. Randhawa, the Congress nominee for Gurdaspur, previously held the position of deputy chief minister and currently serves as the Congress in-charge for Rajasthan.
Singla, the candidate for Anandpur Sahib, is a former MP and served as the PWD minister in the previous Congress government.

Zira, contesting from Khadoor Sahib, will face tough competition from candidates representing AAP, BJP, SAD, and an Independent candidate.
The Punjab Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for June 1, marking the final phase of the seven-phase election process.
