Lohgarh residents protest illegal street vendor occupation in memorandum

Illegal occupation by street vendors along the road in front of Phirni Lohgarh Park and Dussehra Ground in Lohgarh village has become a significant concern, sparking various issues. To address this problem, a meeting was convened at Gurudwara Sahib in Lohgarh, attended by the youth and village dignitaries. Following the decisions made during the meeting, a memorandum was submitted today to Ravneet Singh, the Executive Officer of Municipal Council Zirakpur.

The memorandum highlighted the pervasive issue of illegal occupation by street vendors from Phirni village to Sigma City Chowk, encompassing the Dussehra Ground and the Senior Secondary School in Lohgarh. The vendors, along with occupying the space, have also established warehouses and permanent stands for meat, fish, and eggs in the area. The added concern is that individuals often consume alcohol in these spaces, leading to a deteriorating environment and frequent altercations.

The memorandum urged the Municipal Council to take swift action in addressing this issue by releasing the occupied areas. It emphasized that street vendors should operate by moving around rather than permanently occupying specific locations. The letter further highlighted that the presence of these permanent stands exacerbates traffic problems in the area, necessitating their prompt removal to prevent any potential law and order situations.

During the submission of the memorandum, Councilor Jaipal Singh, along with Kamaljit Singh Lohgarh, Avtar Saini Lohgarh, Preet, and other dignitaries were present.
In response to the memorandum, the city council assured that a solution to this problem would be found soon. Additionally, they provided a copy of the memorandum to the Zirakpur police station, seeking police assistance during the enforcement of necessary actions.
