LG Manoj Sinha launches Swachh initiatives for zero-waste Amarnath Yatra 2024

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday emphasized Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism, announcing the government’s objective to ensure a zero-waste Amarnath Yatra for 2024.

At a launch event at Raj Bhawan, LG Sinha unveiled various Swachh initiatives spearheaded by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation. He commended the Directorate for their efforts, highlighting the introduction of a new logo, the Swachh Yatra Anthem, a dedicated website, and a mobile application, all designed to support the zero-waste goal for the sacred pilgrimage.

“The integrated strategy of the J&K administration and Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) aims at achieving zero-waste, a clean and efficient sanitation system, and the complete protection of our natural resources and environment,” said LG Sinha. “J&K is at the forefront of promoting sustainable tourism. For this holy yatra, we have devised solutions through the fusion of technology and human resources.”

LG Sinha highlighted that the new logo symbolizes the commitment to making the Amarnath Yatra a memorable and eco-friendly experience. He also introduced the website **shivamsankalpamastu.in** and the mobile application **Nandi – the Yatra Saarthi**, both of which will provide accurate information related to the yatra and its sanitation measures. The LG praised the initiatives aimed at raising awareness among pilgrims and all stakeholders, noting that the anthem “Chal Amarnath” embodies the convergence of spirituality, natural heritage, and ecology.

He urged officials and stakeholders to prioritize the installation of necessary facilities for the annual yatra, emphasizing the importance of sensitizing sanitation workers about cleanliness and hygiene. “We need to pay special attention to the environment-friendly disposal of solid waste, and ensure piped water and power connections, lighting, and the availability of necessary facilities at all toilets,” LG Sinha added. The launch ceremony was attended by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SASB, Mandeep Kumar Bhandari; Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary; Director General (DG) Rural Sanitation, Anoo Malhotra; and other senior officials.
