Lawyers burn effigy in protest against CM Gehlot’s remarks

The statement made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot regarding the judiciary has stirred controversy in Rajasthan. Lawyers are angry about Gehlot’s statement, and there have been various reactions from the legal community. A public interest petition has been filed against Gehlot in the High Court and is expected to be heard next week. Additionally, the Bar Council’s former vice president has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court urging disciplinary action against Gehlot.
Shivcharan Gupta, a lawyer who filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the High Court, stated that Gehlot’s statement is highly derogatory to the judiciary. It tarnishes the reputation of the judiciary and falls under the definition of contempt of court. He called for swift action in the case. After Gehlot’s statement, lawyers staged protests in the High Court premises by burning an effigy of the Chief Minister. The lawyers are demanding an immediate apology from Gehlot for his statement. They also requested a speedy hearing of the case.
In his controversial statement, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed concerns about corruption within the judiciary, raising questions about the integrity of judges. This statement has not only damaged the reputation of the judiciary but has also hindered the smooth functioning of the legal system. Gehlot’s comments are being seen as an attack on the judiciary’s independence and credibility. After Gehlot’s statement, there is growing tension between the legal community and the state government in Rajasthan. The former vice president of the Bar Council has requested disciplinary action against Gehlot, stating that his comments not only tarnish the judiciary’s reputation but also disrupt the legal system’s proper functioning. This situation has raised significant concerns about the relationship between the executive and the judiciary in Rajasthan, and it remains to be seen how it will be resolved.
