Land for Job scam case: Lalu Yadav reaches at ED’s office in Patna

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav appeared before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) for questioning in connection with the alleged Land for Job scam. Outside the ED office, RJD workers protested, alleging harassment by the Central government to hinder their party’s preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Lalu Yadav’s daughter, Misa Bharti, accompanied him and addressed reporters, emphasizing that the people are closely observing the situation.

RJD Rajya Sabha MP, Manoj Kumar Jha, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politically targeting rivals through government agencies. He characterized the situation as a “BJP summon” rather than an ED summon, suggesting a political motive behind the actions. In response, Bihar BJP unit chief and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chowdhary asserted that corruption was deeply rooted in the RJD.

The alleged scam occurred during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister (2004-2009). The chargesheet, filed by the CBI in October, implicated Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, and others. The accusations involve the transfer of lands owned by candidates and their families, in exchange for Railway appointments. The ED is investigating money laundering aspects of the case, while the CBI probes allegations of land-for-jobs bribery in the Railways.
