Punjab Police have identified Lakhbir Singh Landa as the master mind of the rocket propelled grenade attack on Punjab Police’s Intelligence headquarters in Mohali on May 9 last week. The state police have also linked Babbar Khalsa and Pakistan’s ISI to the attack.
In a press conference held in Chandigarh on Friday, Punjab DGP VK Bhavra said that Lakhbir Singh Landa, a gangster, is the main conspirator behind the attack. Landa was a resident of Tarn Taran before he shifted to Canada in 2017. The gangster is a close associate of Harinder Singh Rinda, who has close links with Babbar Khalsa International chief Wadhawa Singh, said DGP Bhawra. Rinda, according to the police, is an ISI operative who is working out of Pakistan. DGP Bhawra said, “We can see that this blast was done together by Babbar Khalsa International and gangster with the backing of Pakistan based ISI. One of the main associates of Landa is Nishan Singh. He too is a resident of Tarn Taran and was rounded up by the police. He was arrested by Faridkot Police a few days back.”
According to the police, Jagdeep Singh Kang was the local contact of the terrorists. The DGP said that so far six accused have been arrested including a woman in the Mohali attack. Three of them are residents of Tarn Taran.
The DGP also said that Chadhat Singh and Jagdeep Kang had conducted recce in Mohali before the attack and Nishan Singh helped the accused in many ways. The DGP said that the motive of the terrorists was only to create fear and challenge the Punjab Police. The RPG used in the attack could be of Russia or Bulgarian origin and reached Punjab via Pakistan, the DGP said.
It was Landa who made other conspirators know the location of RPG in Punjab. DGP also said that there are another two Muslim terrorists from Bihar who are part of this conspiracy. Terrorists who launched the RPG attack are still at large and Punjab Police is investigating the matter.
