KP Viswanathan, a former Kerala minister and senior Congress leader, passed away on Friday morning at a private hospital in Thrissur. He was 83 years old. Renowned politician KP Viswanathan was a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly for six terms. In the 5th and 6th assemblies, he represented the Kunnamkulam constituency; in the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th assemblies, he represented the Kodakara constituency. From July 2, 1991, to November 16, 1994, and again from September 5, 2004, to February 10, 2005, Viswanathan served as Minister for Forests & Wildlife. In 2005, he resigned from his position due to a statement made by the Kerala High Court disparaging him.
