KOLKATA: FIRST METRO TRAIN TO RUN UNDER RIVER

Once Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited London, she announced that she would make Kolkata similar to London. Accordingly, the first West Bengal government installed ‘Kolkata Eye, similar to the famous London Eye of the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, that did not attract people. The Kolkata eye was not functioning well. The other day, a trial run of the Kolkata metro was done under the river Hooghly, a tributary of the river Ganges. This is the first metro train that will run under the river in India. This is almost like a metro train under the Thames River in London. The Kolkata Metro is connecting the twin cities of Kolkata and Howrah across the river. But the Kolkata Metro is run by the central government.
