Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: Shocking Details Unveil Accused Trouble Past

Sanjay Roy, the man arrested for the rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has a history of multiple failed marriages and was found with pornographic content on his mobile phone. Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, had extensive access to various departments of the hospital.

Civic volunteers, like Roy, are contractual staff who assist police in various tasks, including traffic management and disaster response, earning around Rs 12,000 per month. Roy joined the Kolkata Police’s disaster management group as a volunteer in 2019 before being transferred to the police welfare cell. He later moved to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College, where he had unrestricted access to the hospital.

Reports indicate that Roy was involved in a racket at the hospital, charging patients’ relatives for securing hospital admissions and beds in nearby nursing homes. Although he wasn’t a regular police officer, Roy often posed as one, wearing a t-shirt with “KP” (Kolkata Police) and using a bike with a KP tag. Many fellow civic volunteers mistakenly believed he was an actual police officer.

During interrogation, Roy admitted to the crime without showing any remorse, reportedly stating, “Hang me if you want.” The semi-nude body of the victim, a second-year postgraduate trainee in the chest medicine department, was found in the hospital’s seminar hall on Friday. She was on duty the previous night and had multiple injuries, with the preliminary autopsy report suggesting sexual assault before her murder. Her father has alleged that she was raped and murdered inside the hospital.

Roy was arrested after his suspicious activities came to light, with sources indicating a history of inappropriate behavior towards women within the hospital.
