KIARA PUTS UP AN ENTERTAINING SHOW AS INDOO, ADITYA SPOT-ON WITH DIALOUGES

MUMBAI: ‘Indoo Ki Jawani’, starring Kiara Advani and Aditya Seal in lead, deals with a dating app and has a comical twist. ‘Indoo Ki Jawani’ is the story of a young girl who experiences life through misadventures and dating apps.

The film starts with cops trying to stop a Black Scorpio car at the check post at the Delhi Ghaziabad border. But the people in the car refuse to show their identity and while they escape, also fire at a cop. The team led by Avinash Nigam (Iqbal Khan) find the car outside a house. The terrorists are nowhere to be seen but the police find explosives inside. Soon they find one occupant of the car, a Pakistani, and the hunt begins to find the second person.

Indira Gupta aka Indoo (Kiara) is having a tough time with her boyfriend Satish (Raghav Raj Kakker). Satish wants to sleep with Indoo but she is apprehensive and reluctant. Indoo then agrees to come to his house at night and later, has a change of mind. Desperate Satish asks a girl from Indoo’s colony, Alka (Lisha Bajaj) to spend the night with him, despite knowing that Alka is getting married to someone else. Indoo’s best friend Sonal (Mallika Dua) tells her that she should take the chance and sleep with Satish, Indoo lands up at his place but finds him in bed with Alka. She breaks up with him immediately. To spoil Indoo’s reputation, Kittu mixes alcohol in Indoo’s drink and this leads her to dance like crazy at Alka’s wedding. After the insult, Indoo’s parents (Rajesh Jais, Alka Kaushal) leave for Delhi for the admission of her brother Bunty (Harsh Sharma), requesting her not to do any drama.

Indoo, still nursing a broken heart, agrees to Sonal’s idea of using a dating app to find a guy for a one-night stand. Sonal believes that this will help her in her next relationship. On the app Indoo matches with Samar (Aditya). After a brief chat, she invites him home in the evening. He reaches Indoo’s place. Samar turns out to be a gentleman. Indoo tries to get intimate with him but gets nervous. She is in the process to seduce Samar that is when his passport falls from his jacket and she comes to know that he is a Pakistani whom the cops had been searching. Indoo gets scared and wonders what is in store next.

Abir Sengupta’s screenplay is effective and comical. The film drags at a couple of places. Abir’s dialogues are witty and add to the humour quotient. The Indo-Pak debate dialogues are lengthy which could have been shorter. The phrase ‘jhanda gaadh diya’ has been used a couple of times which makes it look repetitive and not engaging. The direction is neat and simple. The climax is fun but could have been more edgy and captivating.

Kiara is adorable. She looks cute and puts up a very entertaining performance and justifies her character. Aditya doesn’t have much to do in the first half but later makes his presence felt. He looks dashing and his dialogue delivery is bang on. Mallika is funny and great as the best friend who gives gyaan about men, adult films and sex. Iqbal leaves a huge mark and deserves to be seen more in films.
