In a pivotal development, a crucial prosecution witness positively identified Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik as the main perpetrator in the killing of Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Srinagar city in 1990.
The tragic incident unfolded on January 25, 1990, in the Rawalpora area of Srinagar, where four IAF personnel, including a Squadron Leader, lost their lives, and 22 others sustained injuries during a firing incident while waiting for the staff bus for their day’s duties.
During Thursday’s court proceedings, Rajwar Umeshwar Singh, a former IAF man who witnessed the Rawalpora firing, unequivocally identified Yasin Malik as the main shooter. This critical revelation took place while Malik was presented via video conferencing from Tihar Jail in Delhi, where he is serving a life sentence for another terror-related crime.
Monika Kohli, the counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), underscored the importance of the eyewitness identification. She stated, “Malik’s identification by an eye-witness as the main shooter in this firing incident is a significant development.”
The 1990 Rawalpora incident remains a somber chapter in the history of the region, and the identification of Yasin Malik as the main perpetrator adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal proceedings. The court’s attention is now fixed on unfolding details that shed light on a crime that has left an indelible mark on the memories of the nation.
