Key points of No-confidence motion debate: BJP vs Opposition

In response to the Opposition’s no-confidence move against the NDA administration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet faced a no-confidence vote for the second time in nine years.

The no-confidence motion was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and defeated on Thursday following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response.

On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who returned to Parliament after nearly four months away, took part in the debate. Since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 20, the Parliament has been stalled on a variety of matters, including the violence in Manipur.

During the debate, the Congress leader mentioned his journey to Manipur and talks with victims of violence in the state, saying that ‘Bharat’ is the voice of the people of the country, and that “voice was killed in Manipur.”

After the no-confidence motion, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi revealed while conversing with the media that, “The Opposition didn’t have trust in their no-confidence motion.

“Their statements were non-reliable and the nation didn’t believe them. Most importantly, these people have betrayed the nation…The House which has a majority of 272 and 303 MPs sitting there belong to one party and they are bringing a no-confidence motion against that party.”

Meanwhile, after the Opposition walked out of the House as PM Modi was replying on no-confidence motion, Congress MP K Suresh heard saying to the media that, “He (PM Modi) has given a political speech. He attacked the Congress.”

In addition Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav stated that “The reason behind the no-confidence motion was Manipur where several women were raped, children were killed and several other incidents but PM didn’t say anything about Manipur and didn’t stand with the people of Manipur & that’s why the opposition staged a walkout.”

RJD MP Manoj Jha was heard saying that, “We thought that PM Modi will speak on Manipur…But what did we see? Comments, jokes and Whatsapp talks… This was not expected from PM Modi…”
