Making car parks convenient for common people, Kerala Government is set to launch a mobile app to reserve parking spot.
As per Matrubhoomi report, this app aims to deal with the issue of parking space availability in cities of Kerala.
This project is headed by Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority (KMTA), under this initiative, users will be able to pay and book parking space in advance via the mobile app.
According to news reports, this application will become operational within six months. Its implementation will start on Ernakulam district, with a cost of ₹5 crore. This project will be jointly funded by central and state government.
Earlier ahead of app’s launch, an extensive study was conducted on 51 parking spots managed by Kochi Metro. These areas are identified as Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), the Kochi Corporation, and the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA).
In addition, these private parking facilities will be equipped with CCTV cameras and other monitoring technologies across parking areas to monitor the vehicle movement.
These facilities will also be integrated into this App. As revealed by Matrubhoomi, KMTA not just aims to deal with parking spaces issue, it also intends to create new revenue sources for government and private stakeholders.
But Kerala is not a first state to introduce this initiative. In December, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation also unveiled an app which aims to deal with the problem of illegal parking. Reported Indian Express.
Talking about this mobile application, the official said, ‘The application is developed using the latest technology to identify wrongly parked vehicles. The number, image, and GPS location of the defaulting vehicle will be shared with the municipality as well as the Transport Department through the application.’
