Kerala blasts: Veena George, the health minister puts district hospitals on alert, orders staff on leave to return

Following repeated explosions at a Jehovah’s Witness prayer service in Kalamassery, Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Sunday urged all hospitals to notify all health personnel who are on leave to return immediately.
During a prayer meeting at a convention center in Kalamassery, one person was killed and numerous others were injured in the early morning explosions.
According to a statement made by the Health Minister’s office, George directed the director of the Health Department and the director of the Medical Education Department to offer the finest treatment for those injured in the incident.

It added that all hospitals in the district have been alerted and instructions have been given to direct all health workers, including doctors, who are on leave to return immediately.
Instructions were also given to prepare additional facilities at Kalamasery Medical College, Ernakulam General Hospital and Kottayam Medical College. Additional staff were also being arranged, the Health ministry informed through the statement.
The minister also directed officials to provide all necessary facilities to other hospitals in the district.
According to the police, multiple explosions took place at a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Kalamassery area of Kerala’s Kochi on Sunday morning.

According to Kalamassery CI Vibin Das, the initial explosion occurred about 9 a.m., and numerous explosions occurred over the next hour.
The three-day summit, which began on October 27, came to an end on Sunday. The prayer meeting was attended by about 2,000 individuals, according to officials, when the explosions occurred.
