Sama Shabir, the daughter of incarcerated separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, has publicly declared her allegiance to the sovereignty of the Union of India, distancing herself from her father’s Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).
The 23-year-old, known for her academic achievements as a former CBSE topper in Kashmir, announced her decision through a public notice published in a local newspaper. This bold move comes amidst her father’s imprisonment in Tihar Jail on charges related to money laundering and terror funding.
Emphasizing her identity as a loyal Indian citizen, Sama Shabir unequivocally stated her disassociation from the banned separatist organization founded by her father. “I am a loyal citizen of India and I am not affiliated with any person or organisation which is against the sovereignty of the Union of India,” the notice read.
This declaration marks a significant departure from her family’s political legacy and reflects a personal choice to align with the Indian state. The announcement has stirred discussions in the region, shedding light on the evolving dynamics within Kashmiri society and the intricate interplay of identity, politics, and allegiance.
