Karnataka partners with Tata Technologies to upgrade 150 ITIs

The Karnataka government has agreed to partner with Tata Technologies Ltd, Pune, on Friday to upgrade the state’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and thereby create increased employment opportunities for the youth.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. Anand Bhade, president, Tata Technologies Ltd, and Dr S. Selvakumar, Secretary to Government, Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood signed the MoA.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM appreciated the new initiative of government-industry partnership, which is first of its kind in the country. This will enable youth to have excellent skill training based on industry demand and on the other hand industry will have a skilled workforce, he said.

The scheme will also create a conducive environment for investments. The private companies are providing more than Rs 4,000 crore under CSR activities for the first time, the Chief Minister said.

Warren Harris, MD and CEO of Tata Technologies, said, “Our vision of ‘Engineering a better world’ embodies this social project where we create a platform for students to be a part of the rapidly transforming ecosystem and get exposure to latest machinery, hardware, software, courseware and training.”

According to the agreement, 150 government ITIs in the state will be upgraded at Rs 4,636.50 crore in partnership with Tata Technologies Ltd and other industry partners. Skill Development Training will be provided as per the current demands of the industries.

Along with Tata Technologies, about 20 companies are contributing Rs 4,080 crore from their CSR funds. The remaining Rs 657 crore will be provided by the state government. These 150 ITIs will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 30 crore each.
