Strong contender for the position of chief minister and president of the Karnataka State Congress Committee (KPCC), D K Shivakumar, claimed that the party’s top leadership had not called him to discuss the issue.
On the question, whether he will be appointed as the chief minister, he stated “I don’t know. I have done whatever job was given to me. We have sent a one-line resolution to Delhi.” He added that the formation of the government will occur at a favourable time.
Amidst rumours that the high leadership has requested that he visit Delhi, he said “I have not received any call yet. Let’s see.”
When asked about the formation of the new government, Shivakumar replied, “We will see an auspicious day of the week, auspicious moment and auspicious ‘muhurta’.”
For the position of chief minister, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are engaged in a fierce battle.
At its meeting on Sunday, the Karnataka Congress Legislative Party unanimously passed a resolution giving AICC President M. Mallikarjun Kharge the power to appoint the state’s new chief minister.
The Congress gained 135 seats in the 224-member Assembly on 10 May, followed by the BJP with 66 seats and the JD(S) with 19. On 13 May, the results were announced.
