The Central Government has notified for the appointment of Justice Ritu Bahri as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court with effect from October 14, 2023 after the retirement of Chief Justice R.S. Jha.
In 2019, CJ Ravi Shankar Jha was appointed as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. He being the senior puisne Judge from Madhya Pradesh High Court. CJ Jha was Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, before the appointment of him. Earlier, he was also appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh as the Permanent Judge in 2007.
Justice Ritu Bahri born on 1962 at Jalandhar, she being the third-generation lawyer. She in the year 1985 completed her Law from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and got enrolled as an Advocate in the year 1986 with Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana. Justice Ritu Bahri started practise in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Ritu Bahri was being appointed as the Assistant Advocate General, Haryana, in 1992. Thereafter, she was also appointed as Deputy Advocate General, Haryana, in August 1999 and Senior Advocate General, Haryana, in December 2009. Justice Ritu Bahri handled several cases relating to Service matters, land Acquisition, Taxation, Revenue, Labour cases and MACT cases, while representing the State of Haryana.
Justice Ritu Bahri was elevated as Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 16.08.2010.
