Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Maharashtra calling it unconstitutional. He emphasised that the decision based on Shiv Sena MLAs disqualification case will decide the fate of Maharashtra. He questioned the delay caused by Speaker Rahul Narwekar in hearing the pleas in a timely manner.
“Maharashtra has been treated unfairly by the BJP that toppled the MVA and foisted an unconstitutional government in a hostile manner. While the ball now lies in the court of the Speaker Rahul Narwekar (acting in capacity as a Tribunal), it seems that the speaker is going beyond his means and framework to protect the unconstitutional government by delay tactics. It is sad to see an unconstitutional government be supported this way, in what we claim to be the world’s largest democracy,” he said.
He raised doubts on Narwekar’s visit to Ghana saying that his presence there will tarnish the image of the country as he will have to speak about the condition of the state.
“The speaker is scheduled to visit the commonwealth parliamentary conference in Ghana soon, but on what basis will he represent a state where the government is unconstitutional and protected by illegal means? This is defaming the country at a global level, signalling that democracy is a thing of the past,” the MLA said in a tweet on X.
The hearing on the disqualification of 54 Shiv Sena MLAs from both the factions of Shiv Sena-led by chief minister Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray is scheduled to begin from October 13. It has been four months since the Supreme Court verdict on the disqualification of the 16 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs from the Eknath Shinde-led faction. All the 54 MLAs have been issued notices by the state legislative office, against whom disqualification pleas have been filed, to be present on September 14 at the central hall of Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai for the hearing. The hearing of all the MLAs would be held together by Speaker Rahul Narwekar, a source said.
