Journalism should be practised in interest of country: MP Kartikeya Sharma

Every media outlet should take care of the pride and honour of the country, said Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma during a two-day national media dialogue held at Gurugram University here on Wednesday. He further added that students should not take seriously the posts going viral through social media and that the importance of news is only when it is shown at the right time, in the right way and with truth.
Interacting with the students, the Rajya Sabha MP said that it is the responsibility of the media to maintain the pride of the country. He explained to students the value of independent journalism.

“It is not appropriate to defame country through spreading false news and that the duty of a journalist is to provide useful news to the country”, he asserted.
MP Kartikeya Sharma further said that the Notary Act, which was abolished two years ago, had the mentality of slavery and that this Act is being imposed on people once again through social media. In the name of verifying accounts on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, the same thing is being repeated that used to be in the Notary Act. He also added that India has the world’s largest digital economy.
About ITV Group, the media baron said that it has always discharged its duty and will continue to do so in the best interest of the country.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh also graced the occasion and taught students ropes of journalism.

Gurugram University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Kumar talked about the importance of this kind of dialogue and said that it is necessary to inculcate true journalism in students.
