J&K police bolsters counter-terrorism Efforts: Creates 5 new post of deputy SPs

In a proactive move to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities in the Pir Panjal region of Jammu, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has announced the creation of five additional posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). This strategic reinforcement aims to fortify the Counter Insurgency operations in the crucial districts of Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi.

According to the official order issued by Jammu and Kashmir Police, DySP Vikram Sarmal, DySP Naveed Shokat, and DySP Sumit Bhagat have been appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police in the Police Component in Rajouri. Meanwhile, DySP Umer Urfan has been assigned to the Police Component in Poonch, and Rajesh Chandan has been designated as DySP for the Police Component in Reasi. The order, issued by DG J&K Police R R Swain, marks a significant step in addressing the evolving security landscape in the region.

The creation of three new DySP posts in the Police Component of Rajouri, one in Poonch, and one in Reasi underscores the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to enhance security measures in areas that have experienced persistent terrorist activities.

The move is particularly crucial in Rajouri and Poonch, which have witnessed a series of terror attacks over the last 2.5 years, resulting in the tragic loss of 33 soldiers. The relentless attacks, specifically targeted at the Indian Army, have prompted a comprehensive reinforcement strategy to bolster the counter-terrorism grid in these sensitive districts.

With the addition of these new DySP posts, the strength of the Police Component in Rajouri district has now reached four, while Poonch has been fortified with a strength of two DySPs. Remarkably, Reasi, a district that witnessed a major encounter this year, now has the deployment of a DySP in its Police Component for the first time in the last decade.

The strengthening of the Police Component in Jammu and Srinagar districts to its full capacity, except Udhampur, is a strategic move by the Police Chief to augment the counter-terrorism grid in the Union Territory. This proactive measure aims to keep tabs on activities that pose a threat to the security of the country.

As the security apparatus is fortified with these new appointments, the nation looks to the Jammu and Kashmir Police to continue their vigilant efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, maintaining peace, and effectively countering the challenges posed by terrorism in the region.
