J&K embraces Mahatma Gandhi’s principles: LG Sinha lauds efforts towards peace

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his death anniversery today. Attending a solemn event organized by the Gandhi Global Family, Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor recognized and honoured the family members of freedom fighters, martyrs, social activists, and NGOs for their commendable contributions to nation-building.

In his address, Lt Governor Sinha reflected on the enduring principles of Mahatma Gandhi, stating, “Mahatma Gandhiji’s ideals are shaping a new Jammu Kashmir, which has endured violence and terrorism for more than three decades. Following Bapu’s principles, the Union Territory of J&K is now forging its identity as a land of peace, harmony, and brotherhood.”
He emphasized the transformative impact of Mahatma Gandhi’s hymns and his message of truth, non-violence, simplicity, and equality, which are instilling a new consciousness among the people. Lt Governor Sinha acknowledged the annual Shanti Yatra’s role, dedicated to spreading Bapu’s ideals across the Union Territory, as an inspiring force guiding people towards peace and unity.

Speaking about the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Lt Governor Sinha noted, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji is fulfilling Bapu’s dream of self-reliant villages and empowered rural India, ensuring the empowerment of youth, women, farmers, and marginalized sections of society.”
Expressing appreciation for the efforts of the Gandhi Global Family J&K, Lt Governor Sinha lauded organizations and individuals working tirelessly to promote Gandhian values and disseminate the noble message of Truth and Non-Violence.

The event, attended by Padma Shri Dr. SP Varma, President Gandhi Global Family J&K; B.R Sharma, Election Commissioner J&K; senior officials; ex-Servicemen; family members of martyrs and freedom fighters; prominent citizens; social workers; and youth, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the struggle for India’s freedom. A two-minute silence was observed at the Civil Secretariat as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and the valiant martyrs.
