J&K Congress chief urges Centre to conduct simultaneous polls

Jammu & Kashmir Congress Party chief, Vikar Rasool Wani, has called upon the Central Government to synchronize Parliamentary and Assembly elections, aiming to curtail double expenses and safeguard the public exchequer.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Wani emphasized the need for conducting both Parliamentary and Assembly elections simultaneously in Jammu & Kashmir to prevent unnecessary financial losses.

“The State Legislative Assembly has been dormant for the past seven years in Jammu & Kashmir, depriving the people of the region of their democratic right to elect representatives who can advocate for their concerns,” Wani informed reporters.
Expressing concern over the prolonged absence of Assembly elections, Wani questioned the rationale behind the delay, particularly when the security situation appears conducive for Parliamentary polls.

“While the security situation appears favorable for Parliamentary elections in Jammu & Kashmir, it remains unclear why the same conditions are deemed inadequate for Assembly elections,” Wani remarked, addressing the delay in conducting Assembly polls.

He urged the Central Government to streamline the electoral process by conducting both Parliamentary and Assembly elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir, thereby minimizing financial burdens on the public exchequer.

“Why should the Central Government incur double expenses on administrative and security fronts? It’s imperative that both elections are held concurrently,” Wani stressed.
Additionally, Wani highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to addressing farmer grievances, particularly regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP). He pledged that with the formation of a new government at the Centre, the Congress would ensure the legal guarantee and prompt implementation of MSP to alleviate the concerns of protesting farmers.

“Minimum Support Price will receive legal backing and will be prioritized early in the tenure of the new government at the Centre,” Wani affirmed, underlining the party’s dedication to the welfare of farmers.

Vikar Rasool Wani’s advocacy for synchronized elections and the implementation of MSP reflects the Congress party’s proactive stance on democratic representation and agricultural reforms, aiming to serve the interests of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
